Chemical Peel | Post Treatment

continue FOR TWO DAYS POST PEEL…

  1. Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.

  2. Do NOT put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray

  3. NO hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.

  4. NO swimming in chlorine pools or the ocean.

  5. NO activities that would cause excessive perspiration.

  6. Do NOT use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.

  7. Do NOT direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.

  8. Do NOT apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

  9. No sweating/workouts 2-3 days post treatment

  10. Complete your course of Valtrex/Valacyclovir, if applicable, after your treatment.

General Aftercare Guidelines

After your treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel”. However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to twelve hours post-procedure. Please remember, deeper peels can cause more “intense” side effects such as more “sheet” peeling and darkening of certain areas, as you are healing. These side effects are completely transient & will heal & peel away once you are done healing.

  1. NO makeup application the day of treatment; allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight.

  2. DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE until the morning AFTER treatment. Water deactivates certain acids & re-activates others.

  3. USE Post Peel Kit for three to five days or until the flaking has resolved. Begin using your post peel kit the morning AFTER your peel.

  4. Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day.  Feel free to apply more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.

  5. NO prescription/over the counter AHA/BHA creams, serums, gels, ointments, tonics etc., to be used for at least one week post treatment.

  6. NO tretinoin, Retin-A®, Differin®, Renova®, Tazorac®, Avage® EpiDuo™ or Ziana® seven days post-procedure. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.

  7. Avoid direct sun exposure & excessive heat. Please make sure to wear sunscreen

  8. NO TANNING BEDS! …don’t do it…ever.

  9. Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.

  10. NO electrolysis, waxing, or depilatories in the treatment for at least ONE WEEK!

  11. NO OTHER facial treatments for at least 1-2 weeks or unless otherwise directed.

  12. Know that you may purge from your treatment. see below

the purge…

Any sort of facial treatment that is “stimulating” the skin can contribute to breakouts, or most notably knwon as “purging.”

Purging occurs when the skin gets excited and is a very common side effect of treatments like microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning & even facials! It can happen to anyone at anytime, but especially if you have not been treated in over 3 months or if this is your first treatment.

Purging can be a single breakout or many.

The important thing…

Change NOTHING about your skincare routine. Your purging breakouts will resolve in about 2-5 days.

If you scrap your skincare in favor of something "super gentle”, during purging, it delays healing of the breakout(s).

Purging tells up the treatment(s) is doing what it is supposed to do; lifting all the dirt, oil, sebum etc., to the surface and "purging" on the skin to reveal a brighter complexion underneath.

Never pick the purge…

Purging is beautiful, we love her.
